Ride safe. Travel far. Do it soon.

Just another episode of being in the right place at the right time. I was ready to leave for a test ride on a KTM 990 when the salesman told me they were about to have a stunt demo in the parking lot. I was sitting on the bike excited to ride it, but decided to grab my camera and do some filming. I remember having a hard time holding the camera steady because I was so amazing by what Teach McNeil was doing on that motorcycle, and in such a small space. The amount of control he had was amazing.

This is my 5th most viewed video on Youtube. Seems people really love watching a dummy try to break himself and his motorcycle. I filmed this to use as part of an application for the best job in the world. Island care taker would be selected to live on an island and film/blog their experiences there. It sounded a lot like what I was already doing with my video work so I thought I’d try out. I didn’t win, but I did get a video out of it that a lot of people have laid their eyeballs on.

This was one of the first times in my life I had ever taken a motorcycle off road. I hadn’t even owned my GS for more than a couple months. I bought it in January and Mitch and I left for Panama in May.

While filming some stuff about us leaving on our trip we came across this small creek, and being the stereotypical clueless GS owner I went down while crossing what was basically a puddle.

I’ve been having fun going through some old photos.  Here is a collection of my GS in awkward positions.  I only got hurt in one of these.  The pic with the pannier messed up. Didn’t need to go to the hospital, but I was in a lot of pain and limping for weeks… Hmm maybe I should have gone to the hospital.

Mitch and I decided to ride our bikes out on this abandoned train bridge for a few photos.

It was extremely tempting, but I turned around.

This old blacked out BMW looks incredibly bad ass.

Nice photo of BMW’s F800GS Triumph Tiger 800XC in action.
Edit: Not the bike I thought it was.  Thanks to @jolyon_russ for the correction.

“Three decades ago, 24 year old architecture student, Elspeth Beard, set out to ride her bike around the world– a trek that would take 3 years and over 48K miles. The young Englishwoman, who’d been riding since she was just 16 yrs old, had already taken a few solo journeys to Scotland and Ireland– and now was ready to take on more before she finished school and settled down into a career.
Beard’s bike was a used 1974 BMW R 60/6 flat-twin, already with 30K miles, that she bought from a friend of a friend. Her around-the-world bike trek began in New York– “It cost $340 to send the bike and $197 for my own air fare,” she recalls. From NYC she rode up through Canada, then headed south through Mexico and Los Angeles– racking up 5K miles. From LA Beard shipped the bike to Sydney, while she first headed to New Zealand for a visit while her motorcycle was en route.”
