HalfThrottle

Ride safe. Travel far. Do it soon.

This is the MX Gears helmet from LS2. I’ve always thought the motocross style of helmet were cool looking. But I also love the flip open modular style of helmet, now I have both and seem to use them equally. I found it was easier to mount my Drift helmet camera on my HJC, so I use it for vlogging now. When I go out for some hard trail riding I take the LS2.

I like the visor as it helps to block the sun a bit. I’ve noticed that because the helmets nose comes to more of a point the wind screen has a bit of a “V” shape to it. This shape seems to help push the rain drops off to the side while I’m riding in a storm. My favorite thing about the helmet is the venting. It does a great job funneling fresh air inside, and somewhere hot and humid like Panama that is very important.

Sometimes I put a little left over food outside for the many hungry dogs that wander around my neighborhood. Last night my wife and I were sitting outside eating dinner watching the fireflies and I put what I had left on the ground. The dogs took the meat, but left a few noodles and I noticed the ants going after it the next day. I set up my Drift Stealth on a little tripod and let it go. You might notice a few jumps in the video, the camera seems to over heat and shut off when placed in direct sunlight. After erecting a shade from a BBQ, trash can and boogie board I let it shoot until the battery went dead. Using the Drift long life battery it shot 10,293 photographs at 2 second intervals. So it took them about 6 1/2 hours to clean that mess up. I had hoped to see a large swarm of ant going after it, but the colony isn’t that crazy about Italian food. Each photo is 1 frame long in the video, but I also sped it up 200% because the song was ending before the video.

Song: In The Hall of the Mountain King

Artist: Edvard Grieg

Bakker46 asked me about the microphone placement in my helmet so I decided to make a video about it. Basically I put the Drift on the lowest mic setting, and put the mic as far away from my mouth as possible. Sticking it between the helmet liner, and outside shell does a good job of blocking out wind and engine noise while still capturing my voice clearly.

This is a quick tutorial on how to edit a time lapse video. I used my Drift Stealth helmet camera on time lapse mode, had it take a photo every 2 seconds. By the time I was finished taking out the motorcycle battery my camera had captured 320 .jpg’s. So I needed a way to quickly get them into a time line and make each one of them 1 frame long.

I found a description of how to do it in a forum and thought I would quickly make a video tutorial for you.

This was the first time I played with the time lapse features on my Drift. It was kind of fun and I plan to do more in the future.
