HalfThrottle

Ride safe. Travel far. Do it soon.

A fellow youtuber redchargerpilot1 just sent me this video along with an invite to go for a ride next time I’m in the area.  It reminded me of how incredibly beautiful the state of Utah is and I wanted to share it with you.

I was pretty excited to finally be able to ride my motorcycle.  After visiting the beach for a few shots of the bike I decided to head for Volcan Baru.  I wanted to see how the KLR handled some truly rough terrain.  Compared with the BMW R1200GS I normally ride it was a dream.  The KLR was actually going where I wanted it to go! The GS is so heavy it pretty much has a mind of its own in the dirt.

While I was playing around I decided to film some of the ride.  Filming yourself riding makes for a slow day of riding.  Walking ahead to set up the camera, or back down to pick it up.  I do have a helmet cam, and I plan to use it more often but I will still try to get as many good shots with my real camera as possible.  Videos that are 100% filmed with a helmet cam are pretty boring to me.  But adding in some random helmet cam shots will help my videos a lot.

I decided to turn the footage I got into a short teaser about an upcoming trip I want to take.  I’m planning to head up the volcano and spend the night.  That way I have plenty of time to film and the best views from the top are early in the morning.  If it’s clear I should be able to see both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

When the rider goes down in this crash he comes up with a stick stuck in his face, and a broken hand.  The riders decide to leave the one inch diameter stick embed in the cheek and burn for the hospital.  It took them 3 hours to make it there where it was surgically removed, and took 24 stitches to close.

This was only the second time he had used his helmet camera.  If your going to go down might as well get it on tape.

Edit: Not the bike I thought it was.  Thanks to @jolyon_russ for the correction.
